Announcements Steering Committee Meeting Results for 2012The Steering Committee met recently and decided by majority vote that the following items should have NO CHANGES this year and that the following should remain the same:
District Mission
District Vision
District Goals
District Strategies
The only change the Steering Committee felt was necessary was to adjust the District Beliefs. Two belief statements were combined into one sentence thus allowing the acronym of S.T.A.R.S.S. to be changed to just one final S. at the end.
New- S.T.A.R.S.
Students learn best when our staff maintains high expectations for student learning and students are actively involved in their own learning.
The school district needs to be an enriched learning environment that responds to needs of the student as a whole person.
All children in our school building have an equitable opportunity to learn.
Rigorous school district curriculum needs to be integrated, continuous and exploratory.
Supportive school district and home environments are both necessary to give students the opportunity to develop their potential.
For the first time in seven years, there will not be any need to have Focus Groups meet to make rewrites to the Strategic Plan. The Administrative team felt by not having to make changes, this signified a vote of confidence that “all is well this year in LFCS!” Strategic Plan General Information1. The Steering Committee meets twice per year. The first meeting typically occurs in the winter and the purpose is to review the district Mission, Vision, Beliefs, Goals and numerous Strategies.
2. During the winter Steering Committee meeting, the group decides where weaknesses are and then creates a list of items to "rewrite." 3. Focus Groups are created to address each of the areas that should be rewritten as suggested by the Steering Committee. 4. The second Steering Committee meeting occurs in late spring and the purpose is to review the "rewrites" that the Focus Groups completed. Minor changes are often made and then the documents are finalized and ready for implementation. 5. For the most part, Steering Committee membership stays constant and consists of a cross-section of the following groups: a. teaching staff b. support staff c. administration d. Board of Education members e. Community members f. High School students 6. Focus Group membership changes from year to year. Members are recruited and/or may volunteer. Usually those with a strong interest in the topic being addressed in the "rewrite" are part of each committee. For example, if a Strategy on Transportation is being rewritten by a Focus Group then it is likely there will be staff from the Transportation Department on that Focus Group. 7. In 2010-11, it was decided by the Steering Committee that the contents of Goal 1 would take on a new look and become a part of our NCA/Advanced Education goals. We found that there was already much overlap with the two documents (i.e. Goal One and NCA/Advanced Ed. School Improvement documents). Essentially, Goal 1 had an academic focus. Due to state requirements, LFCS was required to have a school improvment plan as guided by our NCA/Advanced Education process. So, Goal 1 information can be found in our School Improvement documents and is no longer needed within the Strategic Plan. 8. If you need more information about our district strategic plan, please contact Kathleen Conover at 810-591-3617. Mission and Vision Statements changed in 2011In spring of 2011, the Steering Committee met and decided to revamp our district Vision and Mission statements.
